The Invisible Reading Room
The first exhibition of The Invisible Reading Room was held in March 2006 at the Next Wave Festival in Melbourne. As part of the Next Wave Containers Village, The Invisible Inc. presented The Invisible Reading Room a library incorporating over 100 contemporary artists’ publications including zines, books, sound recordings, video compilations, periodicals, online journals and blogs.
Sourced through artist networks, galleries, open calls and word of mouth, this collection is neither representational nor comprehensive, yet it demonstrates an exciting diversity of approaches to the published medium by young or emerging visual artists from Australia, across the Commonwealth and beyond.
The Invisible Reading Room is an ongoing project, the next installment of which will be held at Firsdraft Gallery in Sydney in October 2006.
Submissions for inclusion in The Invisible Reading Room are due Monday September 18.
